Name: Rhys
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Position: Rider
Dragon's Color/Prefrence: Green
Dragon's Name/Prefrence: Fennth
Character's Looks: Rhys is extremely short, standing at barely five feet, although she is slender. She has shoulder length blonde curls that frame a heart-shaped face, with a small, upturned nose and a rosebud mouth. She tends to wear bright colors that usually clash, so it's not very hard to pick her out in a crowd despite her size. During her time as Holdless, the first fifteen years of her life, she wore earthen colors, such as green and brown, and it made her ideal for a thief. So did her long, slender hands with long fingers. Rhys is never found without a a knives on hand.
Character's Personality: Fiercely independent, Rhys hates depending on anyone else for anything, although she is willing to be partnered with a dragon, because the partnership is mutual. She has a temper that will explode at the drop of a hat, but large things leave her cold and calculating. Rhys is extremely intelligent, although she tends to abandon common sense for a sharp or witty comeback, often landing herself in hot water. If it is a life-or-death situation, one should never be comfortable with Rhys at their back, since she has been known to change colors in the blink of an eye in order to save her own skin. She is secretive, and doesn't like people to know very much about her. Rhys will often stick her nose into other peoples' business, and dislikes being left out of important plans. She will refuse to do anything unless everything is explained to her, so that she can figure out how to profit for herself.
Character's History: Born in to a group of Holdless people, Rhys grew up in the wilds of Pern on the Southern Continent, never really content. Upon the discovery of her talents at slipping in and out small spaces - often accompanied by little valuables tucked in her pockets - unnoticed by anyone else, she was immediately send to her uncle's 'family', which was almost like a guild of thieves. There, Rhys picked up her skills as a common crimmal, and whenever her uncle's Holdless clan stopped at a Hold for the night, she would relieve the Lord and Lady Holder of their valuables, making her clan one of the more well-to-do groups of Holdless wandering the Southern Continet.
Rhys's big mistake came at a Hold near a weyr that was near to full. It was that time when the riders came to collect the Hold's tithe, but Rhys, being unfamiliar with the ways of dragonmen and the weyrs, still slipped into the Hold, intent on stealing some of the Lady Holder's famed jewels. Unfortunately for her, she was seen by a brown dragon, and held there, screaming, until the rider came. But Rhys still had a small stroke of luck on her side: she was Searched, as are all people of the Holds, and found worthy of coming to the weyr. Old for a first-time Candidate at fifteen, she Impressed the green Fennth, and began training to become a rider. Her alliegances changed from her uncle's clan to the weyr, as she saw becoming a dragonrider of Pern as a way to destroy the Thread which had made her family Holdless all that long time ago.
RP Sample: Rhys watched patiently as the little green approached her. She had never dreamed of Impressing a dragon and truly had no preference to the color. All she wanted was the chance to fly above Pern and help to fight the Threadfall that had been responsible for making her family Holdless. If anything could help her to revenge it, she would try for it, and if Impressing a dragon both completed her and helped her fight and destroy the deadly Thread that fell from the sky… It was as if destiny had put in a hand and deftly spun together the lives of Rhys and a dragonet from this clutch. How had it happened? Rhys shook her head once more. Why was she thinking like a philosopher? It must be the heat of the Hatching Grounds.
Blue eyes still fixed on the green, she lifted a small hand and wiped wet blonde curls from her face. And she waited. The dragonet continued waddling closer, its golden eyes a strange swirl of gold and copper. Rhys tilted her head slightly. Is this for me? she wondered. She had heard many tales of the valiant greenriders, soaring in the Threadfall and burning them from the sky. What could be more wonderful? But the dragonet seemed to be turning away from Rhys. The young woman sighed, slouching a bit as she shifted her wieght to keep the heat from the silvery sands from burning through her sandals. But suddenly, the dragonet gave a blissful cry, and began to stumble towards Rhys, finally tumbling into a heap at the girl's feet.
~Fennth is me, and you are Mine,~ the green dragonet announced suddenly, looking up from its position on the hot sands. The change in the small young woman’s face as she knelt down next to the green was quite amazing. “Hullo,” she murmured, “are you hungry?” The dragon’s answer was emphatic, so Rhys, laughing, scooped up Fennth, staggering at the sudden weight in her arms - she could barely hold the dragonet! - and began to make her way to the feeding tables.
