Name:Teryl
Age:14, almost 15
Gender:Female
Position:Candidate
Dragon's Color/Preference:Anything matching her personality. If nothing in this clutch fits her personality, it might be interesting if she didn't Impress until next clutch.
Dragon's Name/Preference:No preference
Character's Looks:Everything about Teryl seems to be tall and thin. Her height is not quite six feet, making her considerably taller then most of the girls and, indeed, many of the boys she meets. She has a perpetual slouch, adopted to disguise her height to some degree. Her hair is dark brown and straight, reaching her hips unbound, but usually pulled back into a tight braid; her eyes are a lighter version of the same brown shade, setting off her high cheekbones. At fifteen, she still looks like a girl, with no figure to speak of. She is also clumsy in the way of someone who is not used to their body at the moment, but she has reached the end of her growth spurt, so that should subside soon.
Character's Personality:Teryl is very smart, much more so then many others think a girl has a right to be. She can read and write very well - in fact, she was an apprentice at the Archivist craft before she was searched. Her memory is wonderful for insignificant trivia and unimportant details, but she can never seem to keep tabs on dates, names, or important events, which makes her late all too often. She usually avoids people, finding her large vocabulary and blunt statement of fact makes her seem arrogant and rude, though she enjoys intelligent conversation when she can find it. She spends most of her time lost in the remote corners of the hall, looking for either a quiet spot to read, an interesting subject to draw, or one of the many domestic felines that live there to feed.
Character's History:Teryl’s life was a fairly normal one. She grew up in a small hold, the fourth child of five. She could pretty much do as she pleased as a child as long as she didn’t annoy anyone along the way. She thought she wanted to be a harper, so traveled to a Harper hall at about thirteen, but soon found she couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. The master archivist there took notice of her neat copying hand and offered her a place in the ranks of the apprentice archivists. She quickly accepted and has studied there ever since.
RP sample:It was a Search. Possibly the most important day in some lucky person’s life. And she had missed it!
It wasn’t her fault, of course. It never was. She had just forgotten there was a Search today, mostly because she overheard a group of boys talking about ‘that Search next week.’ When the dragon arrived, she had been sketching on her knees and elbows in the dirt of an overgrown garden. And it wouldn’t do to show up at a Search like that! So she had to run down to the baths. No big hurry. The dragonrider would probably stay for dinner.
But she had never taken this route to the bathing pools before, and she was soon hopelessly lost. It took her several candlemarks to escape the dusty passages of the hall she had found herself in. And by then, the dragon on Search was preparing to leave. Teryl raced to the big courtyard the dragon would be taking off from. She wanted to at least see him.
When she reached the courtyard, there was a large crowd gathered to see the dragonrider off. Teryl noticed with no satisfaction the rider was alone - no one had been searched. No one would represent this hall on the Sands at the Weyr.
The dragon was spreading its wings to take off when it seemed to suddenly change its mind. The head turned, focusing the dragon's huge, swirling eyes on...Teryl!
"You - Girl!" The dragonrider called. Teryl pushed forward through the crowd, self consciously straightening her dirty tunic. The dragonrider studied her for a moment, apparently conferring with the dragon. "Go pack - you've just been searched."
