apearance:
A Tone is, in breif, a small fox-like creauture with a rattle on the tip of its tail, like a rattlesnake. it has little fins on the back of its paws, and there are tiny rattles around its paws. instead of a normal rattle-like noise, it creates a bell-like noise when they so will it. their toes are webbed, so it is assumable that they are amphybious by nature. they also have fin-like ears instead of fox ears.
ranks:
their rattles come in different sounds, expressing their ranks. any rank can be any size.
[glow=white,2,300]Soprano: the lightest of the female tones. they are the highest ranking female, the equivellent of a gold. their litters ussually contain 2-7 kits.
[/glow]
[glow=blue,2,300]Bass:the deepest of the tones, it always belongs to a male. they usually mate with Sopranos. they are the top males, the equivellent of a bronze.
[/glow]
[glow=red,2,300]Baritone: The middleman, so to speak. they are always male. they might be able to mate with a soprano, but only if very lucky. oddly enough, this does not effect the size or quality of the litter. they are the equivellent of a brown in rank.
[/glow]
[glow=yellow,2,300]Alto: altos are the equivellent of a green, with a deeper tone than a soprano. they can still have litters, which span from 1-4 pups, usually tenors and altos themselves.
[/glow]
[glow=orange,2,300]Tenor: tenors have the lightest sound of all the males, and are therefore the lowest in rank, even with an alto. they have a snowball's chance of mating with a soprano.[/glow]
impression and abilities:
they spend their youths alone in the sea, swimming and playing. when they come of age, they come out and the litter sits on the beach and waits for the apropriate humans to come. they then, like dragons, pick their human with telepathy. there is, however, no spillover of emotions, since Tones do not think or feel in the same way people do. if their human dies, they will either die of a broken heart(they tend to get attached) or they just go wait for another one to come. they know their names before they come out to impress, since they pick them themselves. their names are usually weather, music, or water-related. they impress to either gender. people usually can only impress one, since they can get attached and very possesive of their humans.
when it comes to mind and memory, they are human and dragon's equals in the former, and their superiors in the latter. they, however, are not nearly as understanding of emotions, and tend to scorn them.
mating and litters:
when it is time to mate, which happens none to often, the female will sit on the beach, and wait for the males. the males will create the greatest songs they can, and the one the female deems best is her mate. they go into the ocean, and come back out later. only they know how many kits were born. there is no washover of emotions to their humans, because Tones pricess feelings differently than humans. later, as mentioned in the impression section, the kits come out and reveal themselves.
